Is it just me or is Christmas arriving earlier every year? No sooner had we put the pumpkins away and the girls began to oh and ah twinkly lights. Really!? Can I least enjoy my turkey dinner first!? If there’s one thing I do love, it’s these by John Lewis.
When it gets like this–a rush of family life, a new writing assignment, an occasional meet-up with a friend–things I love to read pile up.
I started this blog over a year ago. I didn’t know exactly where it was headed, but I felt inspired. What I wanted was to give myself more structure and freedom in my writing. At the time, Iris was four, and Orlagh was eight-years-old. They were in school, either part-time or full-time, and there was a rhythm to my nights and days I hadn’t seen yet. I wanted to write more often about the things I couldn’t stop thinking about: family, motherhood, city life, and culture. Writing was a priority again, and I wanted to do it around life as I knew it.
When our local take-and-bake pizza place folded this past summer, it left a big hole in my weekly menu plan. And it wasn’t just that. I was sentimental about it too. It was a place we’d been going to since before we had kids, and eventually, it became our go-to family spot at least once a week. Sometimes more.
