When we lived along Southport Avenue in the city, the Viennese coffeehouse Julius Meinl was a few blocks away. It sits on a corner and always got great natural light. And I loved their petite cups with the red fez logo. Now that we’re a little north, I was happy to see a new place, Coralie, open up. It also sits on a bright corner and serves Meinl coffee and other sweets. Yesterday, I stopped in for a croissant and a chai tea.
Often times, I’ll chase quotes on writing and creativity. In my handwritten journals, they are everywhere: clipped to pages, scribbled in corners. I’ve been thinking it would be nice to compile them somehow, and maybe, I’ll figure that out. In the meantime, I’ll sprinkle them in here. This one is from Ira Glass. It’s part of a storytelling series to budding creatives. But it makes so much sense no matter how or when you discover it. Here’s an excerpt:
Every time I walk into a vintage clothing shop, or peruse a flea market, the unspoken promise of finding something unique always makes my heart skip a beat. Walking alongside the racks is daunting to me though. I love the idea of vintage. I’m just never sure how to shop it.
Happy New Year! Is it too late to say that? 2015 crept in slowly. It was hard to get back to an early morning routine after a handful of blissful days without one. Sleep. As much as I protest it, I am secretly in love with it. The plunging temperatures returned us to leisure mode as schools were canceled due to the bitter cold. Our family got to hang out at home a bit longer, which made getting back into a productive state something to look forward to.
